When Cathy defined Nvivo’s layout as excel. I started to
feel more comfortable. It is certainly based on the idea of Microsoft
applications and tools. Most of us are used to have some familiarity with
Microsoft office applications and stuffs. It is really very important advantage
to have some familiarity about any digital tools. As it was conceptualized in
our previous reading, I felt that I am “technology native” since I know Microsoft
and I have been using it for a while.
This is a great advantage to manipulate and articulate the knowledge
about Nvivo. Every correlations and relations can be constructed by using the
nodes as interpretive anchors to the data and the analysis process. It is also
important to have all types of the data in one place. The data might be in the
forms like photos, videos, pdf and doc etc. When I think of my personal experiences,
I faced with some problem with the video incompatibility. Nvivo does not allow us
to work some kinds of video format. In addition to that, it is more insufficient
to identify the sentences and words in the scanned documents which are saved as
pdf formats. These can be listed as disadvantage of Nvivo. Memos functions are
also very great features for doing more analysis every step of research
processes.
My most important problem with Nvivo is that I feel more
borders, lines and defined relations while coding my data.
Since you've worked with both NVivo and ATLAS, what are your thoughts regarding some of the differences?
